Detailed Itinerary of the 8 Days Classic Gorillas and Mountain Rwenzori Trek

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Bwindi Forest National Park

This 8 Days Classic Gorillas and Mountain Rwenzori Trek starts at the Entebbe International Airport where you transfer from to Bwindi Forest National Park located in the South Western Part of Uganda. The journey takes you some hours with en-route views at the green terrain vegetation, birds and lunch break at Agip Hotel Mbarara.

After you proceed on your journey to Bwindi Forest National Park and when you reach the Park, check-in your lodge/ hotel for Dinner and Overnight. Buhoma Lodge, Buhoma Community Bandas.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest

8 Days Classic Gorillas and Mountain Rwenzori TrekWake up early have breakfast then transfer to the Park headquarters for briefing on the code of conduct around the Mountain Gorillas then later in groups of 8 with a park ranger guide, penetrate the forest to track the Mountain Gorillas for 3-5 hours depending on their current location and when you meet them, only an hour is allowed in their presence taking numerous photos to keep for memories.

After Gorilla Trekking, transfer back to check-in your lodge for Dinner and Overnight.  Buhoma Lodge, Buhoma Community Bandas.

Day 3: Transfer to  Nyakalengija

After your breakfast at the lodge, embark on a transfer to Kasese – Nyakalengija a journey that rewards you views of the terrain vegetation, birds and lunch break. After a while driving, you reach the Park and proceed to check-in your lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Equator Snow lodge.

 Day 4: Nyakalengija – Nyabitaba

8 Days Classic Gorillas and Mountain Rwenzori TrekAfter breakfast at the lodge, you will walk to the starting point of the hike where you will find your guide and porters. You will start your hike from Nyakalengija through the bamboo, high elephant grass, dense bushes, climbing rocks and crossing river Mahoma.

Along this route, you will be able to spot white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, three horned chameleon and various bird species like the Rwenzori Turaco. The journey will take you about 4-5 hours and then finally reach Nyabitaba hut, where you will have your dinner and spend the night.

Day 5: Nyabitaba – John matte

You will have dinner and then proceed with the hike. Through the forest to the Kurt Shafer bridge, which is the conference of the Bujuku and Mubuku rivers. Then proceed through the bamboo forest, slippery moss covered rocks for a couple of hours.

The top of Nyamulegeya rock will give you a view of mount Stanley and mount Speke. You will then reach john matte hut. At this hut, you will have a clear view of Mt. Stanley and the Margherita glacier if the weather is clear. You will have dinner and spend the night at this hut.

Day 6: John matte – Nyakalengija

After your breakfast, you will hike a little more to see the giant lobelias before descending back to Nyakalengija. You will then return to equator snow lodge where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 7: Departure to Kampala

You will have breakfast at the lodge and then check out. Your driver will then drive you back to Kampala. When you reach the City, proceed to check-in your lodge/ hotel for Dinner and Overnight. Cassia Lodge Buziga, Sheraton Hotel Kampala.

Day 8: Departure to Kampala or Entebbe

Wake up have breakfast then transfer to the Entebbe International Airport to board your flight back home.
