Safest Places to See Gorillas in Africa

Most people want to track mountain gorillas and there’s much debate as to which country offers the best mountain gorilla safari. They’re found in only three countries: Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Thankfully, their numbers are increasing – the latest census confirmed there are now over 1,000 compared to 250 when conservation efforts first started some 50 years ago.

• January and February: Low season offering less huge crowds. Very little or on rain.

Congo Gorilla Trekking Safaris

The democratic republic of Congo has both mountain and lowland gorillas. Congo is the best place to see mountain gorillas. Because of its long civil war and internal conflicts, most people did not prefer the DRC for a gorilla safari. There are four different habitual groups of gorillas in DRC. The Western lowland, Eastern lowland, and Mountain gorillas can be found in DRC. It is only in DRC where you can find Grauer’s or eastern lowland gorillas. Kahuzi-Biega National Park is home to about 250 Grauer’s gorillas, is the perfect place to see them. You can also see western lowland gorillas and mountain gorillas in DRC.
